This little owl pendant is actually a late 19th century dance card pencil!

Dance cards originated in Europe in the 18th century, and were used by women at dances and balls to track dance titles, composers, and mostly importantly the men they wanted to dance with.

They were typically a little booklet with a decorative cover, and often had a cord that could be attached to a wrist or ball gown.

Creature of the darkness, the owl symbolizes magic, mystery, and ancient knowledge.
